What HTTPS provides for a website on a VPS

A TLS certificate supports an encrypted connection between browser and server and verifies the website name. It does not fix application vulnerabilities or replace updates and backups. HTTPS requires a correct DNS record, a certificate for the relevant names and web-server configuration.

When choosing a certificate, confirm covered domains and subdomains, ownership validation, validity period and renewal procedure. Maintain the correct certificate chain and monitor expiration. The SSL option in the demo catalog does not automatically issue a certificate for your domain.
